Curator’s clip description

The sequence shows the domestic settlements and the worksites of the Snowy Mountains Scheme in co-existence.

Curator’s notes

This sequence, filmed in the Snowy Mountains in the late 1950s and early 1960s, explains the interdependent relationship between the influx of residents into the new towns and workers’ camps of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, and the construction work itself. The brute force and disruption of construction and development are the necessary evils for the establishment of domestic calm and economic prosperity in the new-look Snowy Mountains.
