Synopsis

This report looks at the increased use of antidepressant drugs. It examines the marketing and promotion of medicines to treat normally occurring conditions. Specialists are interviewed and patients talk about the undesirable side effects of stopping taking the new drugs. The drugs have also been attributed as a factor in the suicide of some children.

Curator’s notes

This documentary has a current affairs feel – fast-paced, quick interviews with experts and close-ups of drug bottles. The producer is Pat Fiske whose credits include For All the World to See, Australia Daze, Rocking the Foundations, Beats Across Borders and Leaping Off the Edge. Fiske and director Catherine Scott also teamed up for Business Behind Bars.
