The Queen Goes West (1988)

Documentary

Length: 49 minutes 42 seconds

Synopsis

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, opens the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach, Queensland. The townsfolk are excited at the prospect of the 80-minute visit and prepare for the royal visit. Bands rehearse, protocol is observed, and children practise their ballet presentation. Tempers are frayed, particularly when the local band is replaced by an imported band because the loyal Longreach District Band is deemed to be inadequate for HRH. Her Majesty’s visit is a success.

Curator’s notes

A wryly observed documentary as the Longreach folk prepare excitedly for Her Majesty’s visit. The camera quietly observes the excitement and catches moments of rural life.
