Curator’s clip description

Tenor Harold Blair was the son of Esther, a 14-year-old girl who had been raped by her stepfather. He was raised in a dormitory in an institution for outcast children. Herbie Shields, an Elder, recalls the hardships they both had to share at Purga Aboriginal Mission where Blair was raised. Elder Alice Stephan recalls the young, energetic and handsome Harold.

Curator’s notes

Good stock footage and lively interviews with Shields and Stephan give a real sense of the young Blair.
