Curator’s clip description

A montage of black-and-white photos shows Luc and his mother at a younger age, and the suburban houses of Yagoona. Back in the present, we meet the team of friends – ex-junkie Boof (Jason McGoldrick); Terry the supermarket worker (Steven Rooke); Walid (Paul Nakad), who poses for art class; and Donald (Tristian Fereti) and big Shane (Shane MacDonald), who scour the streets for discarded white goods. Luc (Anh Do) and Lloydy (Angus Sampson) join the rest in a game of street footy, but the local garbage men issue a challenge. The Yagoona boys take a beating from the older, tougher men.

Curator’s notes

The film moves easily between moments of sentiment, humour and raucous physical brutality. The game against the garbo men contains a suggestion of the future for the younger men. They’re given a severe lesson by the bald and toothless council workers – who at least have jobs, if not teeth. Will this be where Luc and his mates end up working, they might be wondering to themselves.
