Curator’s clip description

The Vivienne Westwood retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia shows a wonderful collection of more than three decades of one of the most innovative, iconic and influential fashion designers ever and a rare phenomenon – a Brit in a largely European field.

Curator’s notes

Vivienne Westwood is a phenomenon and seeing an exhibition of her work from the last 30 years is a revelation. Not that anyone other than a model could actually wear these creations without looking ridiculous. We can all dream.

Lee Lin Chin first came to prominence as the SBS newsreader who wore outfits that often upstaged the news. She is the front person for this series about fashion that is clearly dear to her heart and crafted to suit her presentation style. Mostly she is exposing the work of Australian designers across fashion garments, millinery, shoes and casual wear. This is the only program in the series about an overseas designer and the great and enduring Vivienne Westwood is a fine choice.
