Curator’s clip description

Bricklayers lay the foundations of a house while others carry out masonry work on a rough stone wall. Dimpel’s child, Annemaria – a toddler in a pink dress – explores part of a worksite while her mother – Dimpel’s wife Hildegard – rakes a small patch of grass. Hildegard then sits on the ground, pulls the toddler onto her lap and gives her a bottle.

Curator’s notes

A great tableau that depicts housing construction as part and parcel of everyday life in the postwar reconstruction period.
