Curator’s clip description

Composer Ross Edwards returned to Australia when his mother died. There he searched for a new style of composition, inspired by the economy of Chinese brush painting and relating it to the Australian bush.

Curator’s notes

A fascinating look at the composer’s creative processes as he seeks to break out of his 'ossified’ style and find something new. The director uses Edwards’s voice over a range of images to help us get a sense what he was going through in his mind.
