Taken from the current affairs program Compass
Synopsis
Every year, 700 amateur singers come together to perform Handel’s Messiah at the Sydney Town Hall. It’s a Christmas tradition. They have nine rehearsals only and getting ready for the big night is a nail-biting experience.
Curator’s notes
A well crafted documentary (fly on the wall), capturing all the drama and tension of a huge group of disparate people coming together over nine weeks to rehearse a sublime oratorio. The conductor is a great personality and the filmmakers have plucked a few individuals from the mass of 700 choristers to add a warmth and humanity to this vast undertaking.
