Curator’s clip description

This clip from a Bushells tea cinema advertisement shows a woman reading her girlfriend’s tea-leaves, predicting that she will marry a handsome man and enjoy an ocean voyage. Inside the teacup, we see the friend kissing a handsome man in the moonlight, then the pair getting married and finally a cruise ship departing at a wharf. The woman who had her tea-leaves read exclaims, ‘If only it comes true’ and looks wistfully into the distance.

Curator’s notes

This clip from a silent black-and-white cinema advertisement from 1929 is the first part of a three-part narrative advertisement for Bushells tea. It introduces the story and uses intertitles to add dialogue to the plot.
