Curator’s clip description
The price paid by Peter Andrews and his family for his pursuit of an idea has been enormous. Andrews, his wife and his son describe that time when Peter’s obsession lost them the farm and his marriage.
Curator’s notes
Great interview material, skillfully captured by the director. Peter Andrews is searingly honest about his own character, and his wife and son describe those terrible days with great love for him but also with the sense of frustration they felt that he didn’t seem to want to keep the horse business afloat.
The program makes this the stuff of Greek tragedy where the larger than life hero has the seed within himself to destroy all those who love him as well as himself. Peter Andrews certainly came close to losing everything.
The last shot, the slow motion footage of Andrews galloping on the horse, creates a wonderful final sense of the man’s energy, drive and determination.
