Curator’s clip description

This clip shows a range of activities of Australia Post’s Security and Investigation Service.

Curator’s notes

Australia Post’s Security and Investigation Service is responsible for all mail security issues. Post offices, like banks, are commonly targeted by armed thieves. However, this is only one of a broad range of offences committed involving the nation’s mail service. The clip shows service personnel dealing with the checking of incoming international mail, the X-raying of an assumed explosive device, the retrieval of stolen mailbags from the bottom of Sydney Harbour, the chemical analysis of a forged money order, the detection of computer fraud and the investigation of evidence from a mail van robbery.
