Curator’s clip description

The HMS Renown, carrying the royal passengers, the Duke and Duchess of York, arrives through the Heads of Sydney Harbour. An aerial greeting is given by the Royal Australian Airforce.

Curator’s notes

The newsreel cameraman has used a combination of camera angles including some aerial shots of the Royal Airforce and a stunning shot of the HMS Renown as it enters with the sun behind it. As the newsreel is silent, intertitles have been used to describe what is visible on screen and to link the segments into a chronological sequence that tells us the story of the Duke and Duchess’s arrival.
